The U16s Congleton Grizzlies travelled up to Manchester on Saturday 15th February to take on Manchester Giants Blue in the NBL.
Off the back of very encouraging performances in the past two games, the Grizzlies were looking to convert performances into results against a team they ran very close in the reverse fixture in November, a game the Grizzlies narrowly lost by only 6pts.
The game began at a very fast pace with the Grizzlies hitting a basket straight from the tip, and they built up a strong 13-24 lead by the end of Q1, looking sharp, playing aggressively and hitting accurate shots from range.
The Giants hit back in Q2 as the Grizzlies started to lose momentum, closing the gap to 31-36 at half time.
The start of the second half continued this trend, with the Giants finding their range with shots and they were able to bring the game level at 50-50. With the game then on a knife edge, the Grizzlies were finally able to get a grip of the game again and some calm heads and more good shooting saw them able to close out the game 68-72 to claim their fourth victory of the season.
Coach Ryan Anderson said; “We started the game exactly as we planned to, and got our rewards early – and although we lost our rhythm we showed a lot of composure at the end. The Giants are a talented outfit so it’s a win we can be proud of.”
MVP: Olly Cornes

MVP was awarded to Olly Cornes, who was on top form with shots from range to help grab the win.
