Grizzlies battle but Phoenix take NBL opener
The Grizzlies u16s went on their travels for the first time in their National League season, heading to Ellesmere Port to take on Cheshire Phoenix Juniors.
The game started strong, with both teams using pace and spacing to find open jump shots, most of which dropped in keeping the game level. Phoenix took a slender 4 point lead in the quarter courresy of their long range shooting ability.
The Grizzlies showed persistence though, with strong defence and a steady offence proving a challenge for the Phoenix, with the teams trading blows throughout in an even battle to make the half time score 37 - 32 to the Phoenix.
The third quarter started poorly for the Grizzlies, with Phoenix breaking well to get easy baskets, and once the Grizzlies made adjustments the Phoenix moved the ball well to open up a resounding lead, entering the 4th up by 23.
The fourth quarter showed a bounce back by the Grizzlies on the defensive end, ramping up pressure and caising the Phoenix to turn the ball over, but the Grizzlies failed to turn this pressure into points and ended the game with the momentum, but still down.
Final Score: Cheshire Phoenix Blue 80 - 55 Grizzlies
