Our U17s took on league leaders Hanley Hustlers White in the WGNL.
The first game between the two sides in the WGNL opener back in September was a largely one-sided game, with the Grizzlies losing by 38pts - but this game was drastically different, with the Grizzlies matching Hanley physically to defend well and putting together some excellent team moves to score freely themselves.
Max McCleave ran some excellent plays from point guard, Alex Kyrmalis hit some great shots from distance and both Judah Hunter and Reuben Murphy showed great movement & strength to finish well.
The final score was 43-27 to the Hustlers, and could have been closer still with many team plays the Grizzlies made deserving of more but for the final finish not falling the right way.
Despite the result, Coach Ryan Anderson said it was one of the best team performances of the season so far;
“We did everything right today and put together some excellent team moves. We were vocal, aggressive, moved the ball well and finished clinically – its all I can ask, and I’m proud of the players for putting all our training into practice.”
MVP: Max McCleave
Max was at the heart of all the Grizzlies' best work - breaking the press, successfully running a variety of different plays, non-stop energy, great dribbling and vocal throughout.
