** MATCH REPORT **
The u14 Grizzlies hosted Cheshire Phoenix Juniors tonight at home in Congleton, going into the fixture with a 6-0 record in the North West Regional League. Cheshire Phoenix gave the Grizzlies a run for their money for most of the game in the reverse fixture so the team knew not to take this team lightly.
The first quarter started great defensively, and the intensity was there from the start, however the old bug-bear of the team in not converting their fast break lay-ups returned and the Grizzlies only took a slender 2 point lead into the second period.
The second quarter started in favour of the Phoenix, with some quick baskets and solid defence causing issues for the Grizzlies. This did not last long however, with the Grizzlies able to ramp up their own defence to stop the Phoenix in their tracks and manage to convert some shots on the offensive end. Grizzlies end the half up by 6, score 30-24 to the Grizzlies.
The third quarter started like the first, but the Grizzlies started putting the ball in the hoop, and getting steals at will. The Grizzlies in total managed an astonishing 38 shot attempts in the quarter! The lads still missed a few lay-ups, but they were rebounding like crazy and getting second chance points. Couple this with great defence and the Grizzlies opened up a lead. Grizzlies win the quarter 17-7.
The final quarter was an even affair with the Grizzlies running out of steam defensively, allowing the Phoenix to do as they please, however some key turnovers allowed the Grizzlies to go basket for basket and maintain the gap.
Overall it was a good effort by the boys, but still some things to work on! Final score 68-48 to the Grizzlies.
