The Congleton Grizzlies under-14s showcased incredible resilience to pull off a stunning 44-40 victory over the Manchester Kings, overturning a 12-point deficit in the final quarter in one of the most memorable games of the season.
The Kings started the game strong, controlling the tempo and ending the first quarter with a 14-10 lead. However, the Grizzlies dug deep in the second quarter, with their defensive pressure and tenacity paying off. By halftime, they had edged ahead 23-22, setting the stage for a hard-fought second half.
The third quarter saw the Kings take control once more, using a series of fast breaks and sharp passing to build a commanding 38-26 lead. The Grizzlies struggled to find their rhythm, and it looked as though the game might slip away from them.
The Grizzlies came alive in the last 10 minutes, displaying unparalleled determination and teamwork. Will, Elliot, Henry, and Miles fought tooth and nail, combining relentless defensive pressure with clutch plays on offense. Captain Jesper’s leadership on the court was pivotal, rallying the team to keep pushing.
As the game tightened, MVP Will Boxford took charge. His composed scoring and decision-making under pressure lifted the Grizzlies, and with the crowd roaring in support, they completed the turnaround snatching the win 44-40
Head coach Tom Watson praised his team’s effort and character:
“What a performance. The way the boys fought back in the final quarter was incredible. Everyone gave it their all, and this win was a result of sheer determination and belief. Will Boxford was exceptional tonight, but every single player contributed to this victory. I’m proud of them.”
