It was a big away-day trip up to Barrow-in-Furness for Coach Tom Watson’s U14s squad, to take on Barrow Thorns in the North West Regional League. The Grizzlies came into the game off the back of a win against Northwich in their last game.
Barrow began the game very strongly, and although the Grizzlies were able to score baskets themselves through Harry White, Elliot Wragg and Jasmine Mollart amongst others, it was the home team that raced into a 26-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Two further scores from Wragg kept the scoreboard ticking up for the Grizzlies but the team were unable to find an answer to Barrow’s attack and the Cumbrians went into the half time break with a commanding 44-18 lead.
The third quarter saw the Congleton defence get a better grip on the opposition, keeping them to only 11 further points, while Elliot Wragg grabbed two more baskets to see the score at 55-26 going into the final quarter.
The 4th period however saw Barrow find another gear and they were able to add a further 19 points, and although Congleton scored further baskets through captain Will Boxford and Enzo Ward the game finished 74-34 to Barrow.
Coach Tom Watson said; “It’s a tough place to come - Barrow have a great set-up and an experienced, well drilled team and we weren’t able to contain them today. It’s still great experience for the team though, and gives us some good pointers for things we can work on in training.”
MVP: Elliot Wragg

MVP was awarded to Elliot Wragg, who banked a total of 9pts and showed great energy to keep the Grizzlies going against tough opposition.
