** MATCH REPORT **
Our u14s Grizzlies were tasked with defending home court once again, welcoming Chorley Mammoths to Congleton on late, wet Friday night.
The 1st quarter started slowly, with the normally great Grizzlies defence shattered due to early fouls by the starters. The second unit came on at the 5 minute mark to steady the ship and maintain an early lead by the Grizzlies. 1st quarter ends 13-4 Grizzlies.
The 2nd quarter was more of the same, with fouls being a problem for the Grizzlies, but also for Chorley, meaning neither team could get into a rhythm on either end of the court. A lot of minutes this quarter went to the second unit of the Grizzlies and the quarter was close between the two teams, with the Grizzlies only winning the quarter by 2 to take a halftime lead of 26-15.
Strong words from the coach reignited the Grizzlies defence early, with Chorley only scoring once in the first 5 minutes of the second half before the subs took to the floor. The scoring then shallowed out for both sides as the quarter drew to a close. Score 39-22 Grizzlies.
The fourth quarter was tough, with fouls still being a huge issue for both sides. Chorley having 3 people fouled out in the game, and the Grizzlies having team captain Lennon Gardner fouled out, and having defensive powerhouses Kobie Burton and Sam Akker also on 4 fouls each. This meant minutes for the other Grizzlies and they pulled through, keeping the score ticking over to finish off the night with a win.
The Grizzlies have a break now until after Christmas when they travel to visit Cheshire Phoenix in game 5 of their NWRL season.
