** MATCH RESULT **
Our u14s travelled away from home for the first time today, and faced the long journey to Merseyside to face Liverpool Basketball Club. LBC have been around for a very long time and are highly respected across the country. The boys arrived at the venue and were blown away by the venue. Large open space, bleachers for spectators and a full tv set up to stream the game! Just like the pros!
The first started well, with the starting five leading the way by setting a high intensity on defence and causing LBC issues. It was turnover after turnover for LBC, and break after break for the Grizzlies, but they young guns couldn't capitalise on every break, only leading 10-8 at the end of the first.
The second quarter was an entirely different story, with the Grizzlies deciding LBC were not allowed to breathe, and also managing to control themselves offensively, resulting in a dominating period of basketball to set the tone. Grizzlies won this quarter 19-4 to go into half time with a 29-12 lead.
The second half started much like the first half, with both sides coming out strong, and trying to assert themselves to no avail. Great defence from both teams resulting in a low scoring quarter, with the Grizzlies edging it due to free throws. Grizzlies lead 36-15.
The final quarter was one for the second unit, with the Grizzlies older players making way for the younger ones to shine. The defence was once again a huge point on interest, with Sam Akker, Kobie Burton, Judah Hunter, Harry Akker and Alby Watson all getting steals and blocks to stop LBC. Quarter tied at 7-7 but the damage was done early and the Grizzlies prevail, running out 48-27 winners.
Overall, the defensive performance from the Grizzlies was a wonder to watch, with them playing at a high intensity for the entirety of the match. The team remain undefeated and move to 3-0 on the season.
